One thing at Lowlands I wanted to talk about in particular, is the Converse compound. This huge and colourful stage was a creative centerpoint by day and a musical escape by night. During the day, you could visit the stage to customize (your) Converse shoes, t-shirt, accessoiries and even your body (with body paint). I dip-dyed my black Converse t-shirt, I’ll show the result after I washed the shirt. At night, the compound was packed with people for the legendary Lowlands Silent Disco. Lowlands just happened this weekend. After the super experience I had last year (that includes my camping survival) I had to go again. After we arrived, we parked the car and found out we had to walk an insane couple of miles to the camping spot. After the electronic overload at all the festivals I’ve visited over the last couple of weeks… It was kinda relaxing to visit the hip hop orientated ‘Appelsap’ festival at Oosterpark in Amsterdam. I actually wanted to skip this one because I had a serious hangover from Saturdays festival ‘Buitenwesten. But I’m glad I didn’t! Yesterday I finally enjoyed the festival ‘Buiten Westen’. After all these weeks it was THE talk of the town in Amsterdam whether you were going or not going. Weeks of cloudy, rainy day, mediocre weather made everybody more confused to get the summer feeling and have a party outdoor. And wow.. we were blessed with the sun coming through the huge grizzled clouds! This small cozy festival had a couple of 5, 6 stages (also a secret stage) with many small attractions, starting with a HUGE Ferris in the Westerpark, lounges where you could enjoy the Turkish waterpipe and have paintings on your face. Well, almost all the Amsterdam locals I know have been talking about this new (sold out) festival in town called Buitenwesten for quite some time now… Even half of my Facebook buddies pressed the attending button on the Buitenwesten Facebookpage… Next to Lowlands, this probably was the most buzzed event of the year. This Saturday the Westerpark in Amsterdam will be turned into a cozy festival area… like a carnival, so I’ve heard! Now let’s hope the weather will be good, because the last couple of weeks the Dutch weather was really messed up… I’ll keep fingers crossed. What to do when you’re not on vacation in July & August? And what to do when the sun is shining? You go to festivals! After the couple of festivals I have visited I came to the conclusion that many festivals almost look and sound the same, in music and visitors. Open Air was definitly my best one, FYM was my hometownglory one, but this years Pitch Festival made me wanna go ‘WRAAHHHHH’. Unfortunately I was too tired after Berlin to go straight to Pitch on Friday but my Saturday visit was awesome! The sun was shining, music loving visitors and true fans of elektro music. Seems like all I do is party lately… Hey, what would you have done? I’m working on a festival article here! So yesterday I was in my hometown Arnhem to check out Free Your Mind Festival. I remember back in the days, when I still lived in Arnhem… People were buzzing this festival months in front and everybody you knew was going to be there… So it was kinda homecoming for me… What a cozy festival it was. Located in around the legenday John Frost bridge people were enjoying the kind sun, great music, drinks and a relaxing vibe with loads of energy. After experiencing bad weather for the last couple of weeks, yesterday was a true blessing. Especially for the organizers of Pacha Festival in Amsterdam. With the sun shining in full galore, the tone of the day was immediately set when entering the festival area of Pacha. Everyone was happy and enjoying the sun to the fullest… The vibe was Ibiza in its very own Amsterdam way.
