I got so excited when I found out Shabu Shabu is opening in Amsterdam. This all you can eat Japanese restaurant is the best in the Netherlands. And now they’ve opened a one in Amsterdam (de Pijp). The sushi is so fresh, the sashimi melts on your tongue and the teriyaki beef is as tender as it can be (ok I’m overreacting…it’s not the Okura, but it’s good). Think I’m going to eat lots of sushi this weekend….

Dutch designer label The People of the Labyrinths (POTL) launched a “Young Talent Program” in which they offer aspiring creative talent a platform and the opportunity to present themselves to a wider audience. 3D design students from Artez showed their arts by exhibiting sketches and shoe designs. Earlier this month the stage was taken by Artez graduates Britt Tan & Fred Farrow who created a world together called Psychic Chasm. Both exciting and talents to watch since Fred Farrow is offered a job at Balmain. Well, very curious what will be next. For those who cant wait till the next exhibition at the store, Hans Demoed designer & founder from The People of the Labyrinths designed a chandelier for the upcoming Cin Cin exhibition - see invite.

Forget the iPhone and Blackberry because we are going retro! People (like me) who are born in the eighties probably remember his or her ‘My First Sony’ with its legendary blue, yellow and red. In a time where the smartphone is the new body part, Dutch advertising agency John Doe designed the simple and old skool John’s Phone. When I first saw this phone I felt the same way when my dad gave me ‘My First Sony’.

I sometimes wonder in which hotel I would stay if I was a tourist visiting Amsterdam. I actually have one on top of my wishlist: The Dylan. When I heard about the Canal House, which will open this November, I instantly had to hotels on my list. In addition to the prestigious L’Hotel in Paris and the renowned country house hotel and spa Cowley Manor in the English Cotswolds, in early November 2010, proprietors Peter and Jessica Frankopan will open Canal House in Amsterdam. This luxury boutique hotel boasts 23 rooms and has been built in 3 authentic Canal Houses on Keizersgracht.

Monki is a Tokyo Street Style meets Crisp Scandinavian Fashion Sense brand for young women who want to look good for a good price… Why don’t they have these kind of brands/stores for men?

There are a lot of things to do this weekend: Lowlands, Sail, De Parade. But there is one event where you can sit front row at a fashion show: the Grazia PC Catwalk. This event is organized by The Fashion & Museum District and the Dutch Grazia. Big names such as Lanvin, Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, Etro and Burberry will show their latest collection on the 350 m catwalk. And you can buy everything at this famous street in Amsterdam.
