Although I’m really getting bored of beards in fashion ad campaigns (actually beards in general) I kinda like the new ad campaign of young label Natural Selection Denim. An edgy British denim brand, built on the Darwinian concepts of constant evolution. This season they adapted the brand’s subtle British aesthetics, communicated through the fit, cut and fabrics. It is not very surprising that Online it-girl and daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger, would become a successful model. With her enchanting look and perfect split in her front teeth, she takes over the modeling world by storm. She was asked to be the face of the Fall Winter campaign of Sisley. For this occasion she collaborated with her (actor) fiancé Josh McLellan. I finally got the chance to visit the exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier at ‘de Kunsthal’ in Rotterdam. In an exciting, multi media show, the Kunsthal Rotterdam presents a broad overview of Jean Paul Gaultier’s work. For his collections, Jean Paul Gaultier was inspired by various countries ranging from Africa and India to Russia and Mexico. His daring and extravagant designs for stars such as Madonna, Björk and Lady Gaga are world-famous; Gaultier has determined the face of fashion over the last 35 years. This must-see exhibition features more than 140 outfits by the cutting-edge French couturier, including the bra-and-corset costume from Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition tour. Next to that you can expect video footage of fashion shows, concerts, dance performances, films and music videos, drawings and sketches, and photographs by photographers such as Mario Testino, David LaChapelle, Helmut Newton and Robert Doisneau. Yesterday, Belvedere Vodka organized a Bloody Shake Off to search for the best Bloody Mary in Amsterdam. Cocktailshakers from 10 Amsterdam hotspots battled with eachother to shake the perfect red tomato cocktail. The legendary Karl Lagerfeld opened his first official concept store in Amsterdam! As part of an international rollout of store openings, the Amsterdam location will feature Karl Lagerfeld’s contemporary concept. The Amsterdam store will combine the brand’s accessible luxury collections with cutting-edge digital technology and Lagerfeld’s iconic design aesthetic. The store is located in the picturesque Jordaan district, in a charming 18th- century listed building. Original structural elements have been preserved and incorporated into the newly renovated design. It’s exciting to see that they’ve chosen this area instead of an A-High-End-Location like the P.C. Yesterday I attended a lunch down South in Eindhoven (NL) at the Piet Hein Eek Studio in an old Philips factory. Piet Hein Eek is a designer known for his wooden furniture. This season he collaborated with Champagne brand Ruinart for their wooden case. Foam Magazine, a publication of Foam and Vandejong, is one of the world’s most renowned photography magazines. During this special sale event backissues of the magazine (featuring the work of top photographers as Robert Frank, Thomas Ruff and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin) will be sold with big discounts. I knew Levi’s has a long and rich history, full of amazing stories. But last week I got a major heritage lesson by an official Levi’s historian from the States. In celebration of the (Levi’s) 501′s 140th birthday, foto museum FOAM Amsterdam, showcased one of the rarest 501 jeans ever. With a small group of people we got to see these amazing jeans, found in American gold mines! The fabrics are so old and fragile, that only the historian could touch them! Last week Prestage Magazine launch its latest issue at a new club in Amsterdam called Van Dyck. It was also the magazine’s 2nd anniversary… That explains the party pictures. This independent stage for fashion is a biannual magazine founded by two young ladies after they graduated: Stefanie Mensink and Puck Landewé. The cool thing about these ambitious ladies is, how they manage to publish a magazine in times where other magazines are calling it a quit… The latest issue of Prestage Magazine is called Disharmony, and guess what? Last Thursday Hugo Boss opened one of its biggest flagship stores in the world. Right here in the ‘big’ city of Amsterdam. This store is one of eleven mega flagship locations around the globe to boast the new interior design. This gigantic house of Hugo Boss, will provide an environment that perfectly showcases a 360-degree approach to premium luxury fashion and retailing. It really gives a boost to the Amsterdam shopping market. Yesterday I went to the official sneaker convention called Sneakerness. Here selected sneaker and lifestyle brands from all over Europe showed exclusive styles and collaborations, as well as plenty of rare vintage styles and limited collectables. The supporting program featured workshops, live-presentations and sneaker-customizing, next to a sneaker painting exhibition, as well as selling and swap tables by official sneaker heads.
